Research Occupational Health Program

Program Description

The University of Minnesota requires all faculty, staff, students, and volunteers who participate in observing or conducting animal research, teaching, or display or educational activities, or are entering areas that may involve exposure to University-owned animals (including carcasses, tissues, and fluids), to enroll and participate in the Research Occupational Health Program (ROHP). ROHP consists of training requirements and medical requirements, which are assigned based on the species of animal to which you are exposed and the type of work you do.

    • Rabies: depending on the species, you may decline the rabies vaccination by submitting the Rabies Declination Form in lieu of completing the series, titer, or booster.
    • Measles and Influenza: these requirements are in place for the safety of the animals. A declination is available. However, the declination comes with the requirement to enroll in the Respiratory Protection Program for mandatory use of a respirator to protect the animals in these areas.
